Hello friends! A few weeks ago I posted that I was thinking about going vegan and my immense love for all things CHEESE. I have struggled, but found that going vegan is not impossible. It is actually cheaper and I feel better, both physically and emotionally.
That being said, the cheese struggle is real, y’all. I remember when my husband and I were dating, I found out he preferred his burgers without cheese and I thought he was INSANE. However, I have learned to embrace the cheeseless life. I even had a veggie burger today without cheese. I never thought I’d say that!
The 2nd hardest thing has been restaurants. It’s pretty easy to find vegetarian options, but finding an entree without ANY animal products is pretty tough. When scanning the menu, its pretty common now for me to think to myself: “Oh I could get the fettuccine….oh wait. Maybe the chef’s salad….nope, never mind. A side of vegetables, it is.” This is perhaps a blessing in disguise as I have been trying to cook at home more instead of eating out anyway.
The final hurdle has been meals that are cooked for me, like at a family get-together or dinner party. Normally we do things potluck style, so at our last get-together I brought a nice vegan broccoli salad, but there was literally NOTHING else I could eat that didn’t contain animal products. I’m not the type of person to put myself in the spotlight and I wasn’t ready to have the “where do you get your protein” conversation, so I haven’t told many people about my going vegan yet.
All in all, it has been a good experience that I plan to continue. My conscience is clean knowing I’m not contributing to animals being slaughtered or the environmental impact it has on the planet. Now if I could only get my husband on board! 🙂
