Monthly Goals: An Update!

I am so happy and excited to announce we are 99% finished with the closet update ūüôā ¬†My husband put in some shelves today, and I have been busy organizing all of our new fabric bins. ¬†I also ordered¬†some awesome labels at Target so we will know where everything is; I am just waiting on them to arrive! ¬†I am organizing everything into categories, so I will have a dedicated home for all of our belts, hats, jeans, etc.

I am most excited that my vanity is almost finished as well! ¬†I now have a place for all of my makeup, perfume, and hair tools. ¬†Once my labels come in from Target, I can add those to my bins ūüôā ¬†The last thing we need for the vanity is a big mirror. ¬†I’m not willing to spend an arm and a leg, so I will shop around this week for an affordable one. ¬†I am hoping to reveal everything this weekend, so get ready!

Our third bedroom is also in the midst of a transformation ūüôā¬†I painted the closet doors and bedroom door so far, and the trim¬†is almost done! ¬†I still need to paint the windowsill and the trim around the bedroom door. ¬†Once that is finished I can start on the walls. ¬†Since this is ultimately going to be my husband’s hobby room, I want to convey a masculine feel. ¬†I am planning on painting an accent wall a darker color called Intellectual by Behr. ¬†Then the remaining three walls are going to be painted our favorite grey color, Perfect Taupe by Behr.

So far we have accomplished a lot this month!  I still need to find some wall art for the master bedroom and guest bedroom, pick out a comforter for the guest bedroom, and pick out some throw pillows for the master bedroom.  I was able to declutter the guest bedroom closet this weekend, so that is one more thing off the list!  If we can keep up this momentum, I think we will definitely meet our goals for February.

Until next time, cheers ūüėČ

Goals for February

Tomorrow is already February 1st! ¬†I can’t wait for spring; I need some sunshine in my life ‚̧ ¬†I have several goals in mind for February that I would like to accomplish and share with you:

*Lose 5 more pounds
*Finish all bedrooms
*Make time for Friday date nights
*Work on developing a cleaning routine that I can stick to

As far as finishing up the bedrooms, I really only have one left.  We live in a three bedroom house, and you may remember I posted our master bedroom and guest bedroom reveal a while back.

For our master bedroom, we still need to finish up the closet (add new organizers and a makeup vanity ūüôā ) Then there are just a few small details, like adding some wall art or pictures. ¬†I would also like to get some cute throw pillows for our bed.

The guest bedroom could use a new comforter (I accidentally spilled paint on our current one) and some wall art or pictures would really spruce up the space.  I also thought maybe adding a DIY blanket ladder would be cute to display some of our extra blankets for potential guests that may stay the night with us.  I also need to clean out the closet and come up with a good system for my craft supplies and gift wrap.

The REAL task will be our third bedroom, which still needs quite a bit of¬†work. ¬†Once finished, it will be my husband’s hobby room. ¬†It’s a blank slate right now, but we have at least replaced the light fixture, blinds, doorknobs, hinges, outlets, switches and added a new doorstopper. ¬†We will still need to paint the walls, trim and doors. ¬†Once that is all done, we can put up some of my husband’s pictures and maybe some shelves to display his models. ¬†We will also need to clean out that closet and organize all of his craft supplies as well. ¬†We are just a crafty bunch at my house ūüôā ¬†We will probably also put together a DIY folding craft table similar to this one:

I know my husband will be excited to finally have a hobby room, and I am excited to be one step closer to being finished with painting!

As far as establishing a¬†cleaning routine: ¬†its great in theory. ¬†I can come up with routines all day long. ¬†My problem is sticking to them. ¬†I don’t know how other people always keep a perfectly clean home. ¬†I will do really well for a day or two, but then I’ll have a really stressful day at work or an appointment that throws off my usual schedule, and then my cleaning routine is out the window. ¬†Perhaps I need to adjust my routine each week to make room for unexpected times where I may not be able to clean that day, or just give myself a day off. ¬†I will have to experiment to find out what works best for me.

Until next time…..cheers ūüėČ

Be Our Guest (Part 2)

So, you might remember my guest room…

The words boring, beige, and empty come to mind.

Well I am proud to announce that we are finally done with the guest room! Looking at it now, it doesn’t seem like we changed that much, but here is a run down of what we did:

Painted walls – I used Behr Mineral – LOVE!
Painted trim
Painted doors
Installed new ceiling fan
Installed new outlets – since all of the old electrical outlets were COVERED in paint – yuck!
Installed new switches
Installed faux wood blinds
Installed new smoke detector
Replaced all door knobs
Replaced all door hinges
Added a door stopper
Removed weird hook from ceiling

I already had the curtains, bedding, and wall decor, so that saved a little money ūüôā ¬†I found the cute little lamp at HomeGoods, one of my favorite stores for home decor. ¬†You may¬†remember the nightstand from Be Our Guest (Part 1). ¬†Seeing everything finished is a good feeling, and I love how it all turned out! ¬†The only thing left to do now is replace the carpet, but thats not happening for a while. ¬†In the meantime, I think the guest room will be just fine for any of our houseguests!

Be Our Guest (Part 1)

I’ve been working on redecorating our guest room this week. ¬†My wonderful husband has already replaced the light fixture, light switch, and outlets ūüôā

Last week I started my nightstand project for the guest room. I re-stained the top, painted the bottom Behr Burnished Clay, and replaced the drawer pull. ¬†I just put a coat of poly on it this afternoon after work. ¬†I’m really happy with it!

Finished!! (Excuse my mess)
BEFORE: Our (boring) guest room

I painted most of the trim today, with the exception of around the doors and behind my desk. ¬†I’m really dreading moving it, but it has to be done. ¬†Tomorrow I will finish the remaining trim and paint the doors. ¬†Hopefully I can get everything done by this time next week, with the exception of replacing the carpet. ¬†The after pictures are in my second post, Be Our Guest (Part 2)¬†ūüôā

Guest Room To Do List:
Paint walls
Paint trim
Paint doors
Replace carpet
Replace blinds
Replace light fixture
Add doorstopper
Paint nightstand
Replace door hinges
Replace doorknob
Replace smoke detector
Replace closet knobs
Replace outlets
Replace switch

Once the guest room is finished I can start working on the big project I’ve been putting off: our kitchen cabinets. ¬†We are replacing our countertops and backsplash sometime in August or September, so I really want to have the cabinets painted before the countertops are installed. ¬†I already have all of the hardware, so its just a matter of putting in the time and hard work to get it all finished on time. ¬†I know my husband will be so relieved when we are FINISHED with all of these updates. ¬†Did I mention how amazing he is??? ūüôā ‚̧
